Get To Know Me Through 20 Facts

Hi there!

Hope everyone is doing well and if not, then at least I hope you’re doing the best you can. Whether this is the first time you are seeing my face or you see my face all the time, I'd like to officially welcome you to my blog! I’m Ariane and I am a content creator, blogger and writer based in New York City (specifically Brooklyn). On my channels (because I am on multiple platforms), I like to share content about fashion, travel, food, lifestyle and more.

I’ve loved creating content for a while now, but really started taking it seriously back in 2020. So after 3 years, I figured it was time to properly introduce myself to the internet and share some facts about me. Let’s get right to it!

20 Facts About Me

1) My full name is Ariane Guinhouya. I'm Togolese and in our language, which is Ewé, my last name translates to "wild beard", more or less. So I’ve adopted the name for my online presence/persona.

2) I’m 28 years old and I’m a pisces for those that care or are curious.

3) I was named after a French rocket----Fusée Ariane. In my culture it’s believed that you take on the characteristics of the origins of your name. So because rockets are fast, I’m supposed to be speedy. In fact, my family sometimes calls me “fast child” (they say it in Ewé, but that’s the English translation). An example of what I mean by take on characteristics is my mom reminding me not to leave my laundry in the dryer, and I let her know that I already took it out, folded it and put it away. She would then look at me and say, “wow, fast child”.

4) I was born in Lomé, Togo. If you’re not familiar, it’s a little country in between Ghana and Benin. I immigrated to the U.S. when I was eight years old.

5) Once my family and I immigrated to the U.S., we settled in Maryland. They still live there, so I visit often.

6) I grew up speaking Ewé, French and now English. I still speak Ewé fluently and hope to be fluent again in French. I do still understand French pretty well (if it's spoken slowly).

7) I am an only child but have a stepbrother, Daniel. (Hi Danny boy!)

8) I really resemble my mom. Literally giving copy and paste. Some people say they see some of my dad’s features and that I walk like him. I think I have more of his personality and humor.

9) My favorite subject in school was English. I’ve always loved writing.

10) I went to college at the University of Florida (Go Gators!) and studied journalism.

11) I used to work in TV news and now I work in communications. So, I'm still writing.

12) My hobbies include going to the gym or trying out fitness classes like F45 or pilates. I also enjoy cooking, trying new recipes, exploring new restaurants, bars and shops. Traveling to new destinations, watching horror movies and going to parks and museums, just to name a few unrelated things. I definitely will be exploring more hobbies when I inevitably leave behind the 9-5 cycle and have more time and energy. I’d love to learn more about wine, learn how to DJ, pick up indoor rock climbing, take cooking classes, take up pottery, you name it.

13) For a time as a kid, I wanted to be a singer. Then I wanted to be a cop, and at one point a soccer coach. I wasn’t cut out for any of those things. My dream now is to continue building a beautiful and rich life for myself, capture it on camera, share it with the world and inspire others to live their full lives. And of course if a I can generate income by doing so, even better! Funding the dream by living the dream. That’s what I want.

14) I ran a half marathon earlier this year. I’ve never ran a race before. Not even a 5K, but I made it out alive and I’m actually willing to do it again.

15) I would describe my style as simple, effortless and mostly minimalist, although not always. My wardrobe is more timeless than trendy. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely get influenced and incorporate trends into my style, but I keep my items and wear them for years whether they’re “in” or “out”.

16) I’m 5’6 on a good day and currently a U.S. size 6 for reference. I like things to be more of a looser or baggy fit, and I am a S/M for most items.

17) Brands I’m loving at the moment include COS, H&M, Anthropologie, Ganni, Staud, Mango, Sézane and Faithfull the Brand. There are so many more, but I'm trying to stick to where I’ve actually shopped in the past.

18) My favorite cities that I’ve visited so far have been Paris and Madrid. I could see myself living in either city for an extended period of time. I’m excited to explore more cities in and outside of Europe too. I’ve been dying to check out Lisbon, Mexico City, and Mallorca, to name a few. Of course I NEED to do some African vacations. I’ve been to Ghana but not since I was a kid. Would love to go back as an adult. Also Senegal, Ivory Coast, Kenya, the world really.

19) I LOVE food, but if I had to pick, I think my favorite thing to eat is fried sweet plantains.

20) My favorite thing to do when I have free time is to sleep in. No alarm set, just let my body wake up naturally and have a gentle morning. That means meditating, journaling, taking time to sip my coffee before going to the gym or for a long walk. A perfect sequence of events would be to then get in a good workout and make lunch. Shoot, edit or write some content, then maybe take a nap (I love to sleep). Wake up, get ready and dressed in something cute for dinner and drinks with friends. Come home and scroll social media, read a book or watch a movie then sleep again.
